Somebody Loves You Ministries in conjunction with Canning Hunger Ministries and The Salvation Army – have become partners in helping to feed the poor, the hungry and the homeless in our country.
Last year in America, each month, more than twenty five million people were at risk of going hungry. Nearly one out of every ten people living in the most affluent nation on earth did not have enough food to eat. What is more astounding, eighty percent of those who went hungry were employed.
Based on this information, Somebody Loves You Ministries has developed a simple way to aid in the fight against hunger, the “One Can Plan.” We ask that each church involved with the Crusade organize a simple food collection. Their congregation assists us by gathering canned food two weeks preceding the Crusade in their church. In addition, on the week before the Crusade, the pastor announces to their congregations that canned goods will be collected each night during the Crusade. There will be convenient drop off stations at the Crusade to receive the donations. The goal of the “One Can Plan” is to receive at least one non-perishable item from each household attending the Crusade, demonstrating that there is strength in numbers.
This partnership can be successful on many levels. First, it is an efficient means of donating food to experienced agencies within your community. Second, we hope to break down socioeconomic and ethnic barriers, by linking our resources with those in need. Third, since the “One Can Plan” requires no federal or state subsidy, the government can redirect your tax dollars into urgently needed educational and transitional housing programs.
The church can make a significant impact for Jesus Christ through this campaign. We have found that those who have food are willing to share with those who are in need.
Please join us in this simple way of demonstrating God’s love.
